On Dec. 27, 2008, Israel launched what it called Operation 'Cast Lead,' ending three weeks later. Tensions boiled over once again Nov. 14, 2012, culminating in eight-day Operation 'Pillar of Defense.' On July 7, 2014, Israel began another series of intense bombardment called Operation 'Protective Edge.'
