Compared to the 2 percent of Americans that the USDA estimates farm for a living, the 47 percent of Indians employed in agriculture is a gargantuan amount. But this proportion has been dropping steadily since the early 1990s when India dismantled the Licence Raj system and liberalized large sectors of its economy.
