The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services had prior contact with the families or caretakers of 29 children who died from abuse or neglect in the one-year period between July 1, 2013, and June 30, 2014, with one more case under investigation. That’s according to a Chicago Sun-Times and WBEZ analysis of the most recent yearly report by the state child-welfare agency’s Office of Inspector General.
