Medicare recently released for the first time details on payments to individual doctors and other health professionals serving the 46 million seniors and disabled people in its Part B program. Office visits are reimbursed on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the most intensive and costly. Here’s the breakdown of the total number of office visits by specialty (for patients seen at least once before) and the percentage of specialty visits charged at the highest level. Data is for 2012 and excludes providers who bill under Medicare Part C, like Kaiser Permanente.
